What autonomous IT means for your Service Desk

Autonomous IT uses AI to understand issues and take action within defined policies, with Service Desk engineers involved when needed. For employee support, the aim is less waiting and repetitive work, with clear accountability for what the system does.

Start with work your team repeats every day

Recurring incidents consume time even when engineers already know how to handle them. Autonomous support can investigate each case, apply an appropriate repair within its limits and verify the outcome. Defined workflows can also address repeat situations proactively. Engineers gain time for exceptions, complex problems and improvements to the service.

Connect understanding to action

A symptom needs context before it becomes a useful diagnosis. Device evidence, DEX information and organizational knowledge help the system decide what to do. The action and its result must be recorded, including what was attempted or proposed when a case needs further work.

Separate the starting point from the support method

Reactive support begins with an employee’s problem or a ticket. Proactive support begins from a condition that can be addressed before a request arrives. Autonomous, AI-assisted and engineer-led describe how the work is carried out. A reactive request can therefore be resolved autonomously.

Keep engineers responsible for the boundaries

Engineers set the scope, maintain knowledge, review outcomes and handle cases that need their judgement. AI assistance can guide or act during a session; autonomous work operates under the policies assigned to it. Approval, access, consumption and escalation need to be understandable.

Keep the knowledge base alive

Company-specific knowledge is an operating input. With FlexxSolve, the KB remains connected to support: articles used in cases are taken into account, updated when necessary and removed when no longer in use. Customer knowledge complements Flexxible’s 18 years of digital workplace experience and helps improve autonomous resolution.

Measure the work and the outcome

Review resolution time, engineer effort, recurring workload and the employee’s experience. Distinguish verified autonomous repairs from diagnostics, Teammate assistance and escalation. After hours, consider the employees who received useful support instead of waiting for the next working day.

Put the idea into practice

Start with recurring issues your IT team can inspect. Define the boundaries, review the evidence and improve the knowledge before expanding. Nights and weekends can be valuable first use cases when employees currently have little support.

Read the public Gartner context

Gartner’s public overview of AI applications in IT service management describes AI that analyzes ITSM data to generate recommendations or actions for human IT agents across incident, request and knowledge management. It provides useful context for this shift in service delivery.

How FlexxSolve fits

FlexxSolve orchestrates support across Chatbot, ITSM and MCP entry points. Assist Autonomous diagnoses and performs agentic repairs; Assist Teammate supports engineers through Teammate Guide or Teammate Act. For proactive work, FlexxSolve executes Flows, which run Microservices. Flows currently require FlexxClient.
