Barcelona, July 15, 2026 - Summer changes the way companies operate every year. Part of the workforce is out on vacation, IT departments run on reduced teams, and employees log in from a second home, a hotel, or even another country, all while the same technical problems keep showing up.
According to Flexxible, the Spanish technology company specializing in digital workplace management and automation, summer acts as a stress test for IT departments. The office is usually a controlled environment, with known networks, identified devices, and support close at hand. In summer that setup changes, and it's when many organizations find out just how ready their digital environment really is to work outside its usual conditions.
“Summer breaks many of the routines an organization normally runs on. Employees work from different locations, use different networks, and IT teams typically have fewer resources available. That's when you find out whether a company's technology is ready to respond under any circumstances,” explains Josep Prat, co-founder of Flexxible.
While it's tempting to picture major system outages, most of the problems that come up in summer are far more everyday: an application that's slow to open, a video call that loses quality, a VPN that stops working properly, or an occasional access failure. On their own, these look like minor setbacks, but when they repeat and affect dozens or hundreds of employees, they add up to real hours of lost productivity.
Flexxible points out that the challenge isn't just letting employees work from anywhere. “Most companies have already solved that part. The challenge now is making sure those tools work just as well no matter where the employee is,” argues Prat.
Meeting that challenge takes more than knowing whether a server is up and running. It also requires understanding how applications and devices actually behave from the employee's point of view.
Many companies still gauge the health of their technology environment by counting the tickets their IT department receives. But Flexxible notes that a significant share of everyday digital friction never turns into a support request. An employee who restarts their computer a few times, waits for an application to load, or works around a problem just to keep going is losing productivity, even if the issue never gets reported.
According to Flexxible's data, organizations that automate digital workplace management diagnose IT incidents 65% faster and increase employee satisfaction by up to 40%, by cutting the time employees spend waiting on support and working around technical problems.
For the company, summer doesn't create new technology problems, it makes visible the small frictions that go unnoticed the rest of the year. “When there's less room to resolve incidents, organizations find out whether their technology still depends on specific people stepping in, or whether it already has processes in place that can get ahead of problems,” concludes Prat.
